Preventing Fights in Sports Bars
Posted on: March 21, 2016 by RMS Hospitality
As most bar owners know, the combination of liquor and rowdy patrons can often lead to fights. Especially for those who have had too much to drink, a variety of circumstances can cause a spat to blow out of proportion. With that said, your clients need to be protected with the right Sports Bar Insurance policy to mitigate loss and legal liability as a result of these disputes.
According to Nightclub Security Consultants, fights open the establishment up to lawsuits and liability, they make current customers feel unsafe and less likely to return, they increase the likelihood of police involvement, and they draw lots of negative attention to your establishment; No one wants to go to a bar where fights break out often and patrons/employees are in constant risk of injury. Here are some tips to prevent a fight before it happens.
Monitor the Crowds
All too often no one pays attention to patrons once they have been let inside the bar. Bouncers, doormen, and security guards should sweep the premises on a regular basis to determine if anyone is getting out of control or becoming violent or aggressive. Once these people are identified, security guards should communicate the potential consequences of their actions and let their presence be known. If the patron reacts negatively to the calm warning, they should be escorted out to prevent further altercations.
Communicate with All Staff
As servers and bartenders are interacting with customers all night, it may be easier for them to spot a potential fight. Have security and bouncers communicate with the rest of the staff for tips on who to pay closer attention to.
Potential altercations should never be approached alone. Your clients should send their bouncers and security guards in groups to diffuse the situation before it escalates. If they need to be escorted out, do so at different times to prevent a fight from happening right outside the sports bar.
